Lake Distict - June

We were quite lucky with the weather last weekend, as we'd booked a trip to the Lake District for a few days to do a bit of exploring. We're having our 'minimoon' (mini-honeymoon) there after the wedding in September, with a proper honeymoon the year after.

Ivanka had gone to Manchester in advance and we were due to meet up at Oxenholme. As my train was charging past Manchester, Ivanka was getting ready to jump on her train. In the end we missed each other by 2 minutes at Preston, but due to a points failure we ended up nearly half an hour apart at Oxenholme, and both missed the onward connection (and our lift to the B&B!). Still, the weather was nice enough not to worry too much.

Our first day wasn't really planned, and we ended up wandering around the lake shore, then spending most of the day on cruisers going from place to place exploring a bit. I got mildly lobsterised by the sun, but the scenery was beautiful and we found a good restaurant in the evening.

Luckily we finished dinner at about the right time to head to the marina at Bowness and capture some sunset shots - then Ivanka decided we should go up to a 'nearby' viewpoint.

The second day saw us take some bikes for what should have been an 18.5 mile ride (plus a couple of miles by chain ferry). The kind chap at the bike shop suggested a route, and we set off. It had been over a decade since I'd been on a bike, but it really is like riding a bike... I say it should have been 18.5 miles - I was having so much fun on the downhill sections that I shot straight past the turning we were supposed to take and only noticed a couple of miles down the road. In the end we did about 23.5 miles, and were feeling it towards the end (especially a two mile steep climb uphill, which was far more fun on the way down). The weather was good, and the scenery even better!

Our final day was grey, but we were heading home so most of the rain happened while we were inside a train. However, we went to Orrest Head viewpoint, which we'd been meaning to visit for days. It was wet and windy, but not so foggy that I couldn't take some photos!
